2 player games for couples that won’t start a fight (usually)

Split-screen on a couch is great until one of you hogged the good controller. Long co-op campaigns are great until one of you has a 7am shift. Most “games for couples” lists assume you both own the same console. A lot of us don’t.
Browser two-player games are the unglamorous version. You’re in different rooms, or one of you is on data, or you’re avoiding a voice call because the day was already loud. You still want something to do with your hands that isn’t scrolling the same three apps.
Start small. Don’t open with chess. Mini chess exists on Get One Spot if you insist, but that’s how you discover your partner is a silent assassin and you’re not speaking until Thursday.
Better first round: Memory. Flip cards, steal pairs, talk trash at a volume that doesn’t wake anyone. Rounds are short enough that a loss doesn’t feel like a referendum.
Who Am I is the one that actually tells you something. One of you gets a secret, the other asks yes/no questions. If you’ve been together a while you’ll think this is easy. It is not. People forget their own favorite cereal.
Draw & Guess is dangerous in the fun way. You will draw a dog that looks like a kettle. They will guess “divorce.” You’ll laugh anyway. Keep the rounds to five.
If you want something competitive without being sweaty: Connect 4, Pig (the dice one — bank or risk it), Higher or Lower. Pig is the sleeper. One busted roll and the smug speech you prepared is gone.
Skip anything that needs a 20-minute explainer. If a game has an inventory, it’s not a weeknight game. Get One Spot’s whole list is two-player only, so you won’t get dumped into a public lobby with a random 14-year-old named xX_Beast.
Practical bit: one of you hits Create room, the other opens the invite link. No “what’s the Wi-Fi password for the guest network.” If the connection badge says reconnecting, don’t panic-tap Ready. Wait a second. Then Ready up together.
And if it does start a fight, pick Fishing next. You drop a line. You catch a boot. Nobody’s ego survives a boot.
Open a room on Get One Spot and send the invite. Forty 2 player games, no download.
