How to actually play an online game with one friend (the unglamorous version)

Every game site has a “how it works” strip with three icons. Nobody reads it. Then they text you “it’s not working.” This is the version with the boring details.

1. Open getonespot.lol on your phone or laptop. Type a nickname. Any nickname. You are not creating an account. It’s a sticker on this device.

2. Hit Create room. You’ll see a six-character code. Under it, a link that looks like getonespot.lol/invite/K7P4MX. Share that link. WhatsApp, iMessage, Instagram DM, carrier pigeon. The code alone works too if they tap Join room and type it. The link is harder to mess up.

3. Wait until you see their name across from yours. If it says waiting, they haven’t opened it yet. If it says reconnecting, one of you has a bad network. Give it a few seconds before you rage-create a second room. Two rooms is how you end up playing with yourself.

4. Host picks a game. Guest can sit there and judge the pick. That’s allowed. Both tap Ready. You should get a 3-2-1. If Ready does nothing, check that a game is actually selected. The button stays asleep until there’s a game and a second person.

5. Play. Rematch if you want. Change game stays in the same room — you don’t send a new code. Leave when you’re done. Rooms expire on their own so you’re not babysitting an empty lobby.

Quick match skips the picking. Play something picks a game you didn’t just play. Both are for when the “what do you want to play” conversation has already lasted longer than the game would.

That’s the whole ritual. No Discord server. No “add me on this launcher.” If you can send a meme, you can send an invite.

Open a room on Get One Spot and send the invite. Forty 2 player games, no download.
